Tourism Buses Built for Australian Outback Conditions

Running tours in the Australian outback isn’t for the faint-hearted. Your vehicles need to handle punishing terrain, scorching heat, and long distances—all while keeping passengers comfortable and safe. That’s why outback tour operators have trusted ABLE for decades. We don’t just build buses and coaches; we build solutions designed for the realities of remote travel.

Here’s why ABLE is the go-to choice for tour companies—and how our customisation options make all the difference.

Reliability Where It Counts

When you’re hundreds of kilometres from the nearest town, breakdowns aren’t just inconvenient—they’re costly and potentially dangerous. ABLE vehicles are engineered for durability:

  • Heavy-Duty Chassis: Built on proven platforms like Isuzu 4WD, designed to handle corrugations, sand, and rocky tracks.
  • Reinforced Components: Suspension, cooling systems, and drivetrains tailored for extreme conditions.
  • Quality Control: Every vehicle undergoes rigorous testing before it leaves our workshop.

Many operators schedule seasonal maintenance with ABLE to keep their fleet in peak condition year-round.

Comfort for Long-Haul Adventures

Your passengers aren’t just looking for a ride—they want an experience. That means comfort matters, even in the harshest environments. ABLE offers:

  • Climate Control Systems: Air conditioning that can handle desert heat.
  • Ergonomic Seating: Designed for long hours on the road.
  • Smooth Ride Enhancements: Suspension upgrades to reduce vibration on corrugated tracks.

Because happy passengers mean better reviews—and more bookings.

Customisation for Your Unique Needs

No two tours are the same. That’s why ABLE specialises in custom builds. Popular modifications include:

  • Onboard Toilets: Essential for multi-day trips or routes with limited facilities.
  • Extra Storage: For camping gear, luggage, and supplies.
  • Additional Water Tanks: Keep passengers hydrated and meet safety requirements.
  • Extended Fuel Capacity: For long stretches between refuelling points.
  • AV Systems: Screens, sound systems, and PA setups for guided commentary.
  • Roof Racks & External Storage: Perfect for adventure tours with bulky equipment.

If you’ve got a specific requirement, chances are we’ve done it before—or we’ll engineer a solution that works.

Safety First

Remote touring comes with risks, and safety is non-negotiable. ABLE vehicles are built with:

  • Emergency Exits & Safety Signage
  • Fire Extinguishers & First Aid Provisions
  • High-Visibility Lighting for Night Stops
  • Heavy-Duty Recovery Points for Offroad Assistance

We also offer driver training resources to help your team handle challenging conditions confidently.

Common questions

Do your 4WD vehicles comply with industry standards?

100%. Our vehicles are built to meet—and often exceed—Australian Design Rules (ADR), Australian safety standards, and Roll Over Protection (ROPS) requirements, along with strict mine site specifications for mine spec vehicles and heavy-duty applications.

We specialise in custom truck bodies, bus conversions, and heavy vehicle modifications, all designed and engineered to comply with Australia’s full regulatory framework. This includes NHVR requirements, VSB6 body mounting standards, and Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) mass and dimension limits. Every build is also aligned with OEM body builder guidelines to ensure safety, reliability, and warranty protection.

In simple terms, it means your vehicle is not only purpose-built for the job, but fully compliant, properly engineered, and ready for real-world Australian conditions.

That’s also why we’re proud to be Australia’s only Isuzu-approved modification and conversion partner for custom commercial vehicles and specialised transport solutions.

How do I get spare parts?

ABLE has an on-site spare parts warehouse to help get most items shipped quickly when you need them. We understand that keeping your custom trucks, buses, and remote vehicles on the road is critical—especially in regional and outback Australia—so we aim to get your parts to you as quickly as possible.

In-stock parts can often be dispatched the same day, with air freight available if required for urgent deliveries. If we don’t have a specific part on hand, we can usually order it in or arrange for a custom solution if needed.

For assistance, please contact our spare parts team.

What chassis brands and models can ABLE build on?

ABLE works mainly with trusted brands for 4WD, medium-duty, and heavy-duty vehicles that are proven in rural and remote Australia, including Isuzu, Scania, MAN, and Mercedes-Benz. These platforms are well known for reliability in demanding conditions and remote operations.

We can also build on a wide range of other OEM chassis depending on your needs for custom truck bodies, bus conversions, and specialised commercial vehicles.

Our engineering team will work with you to recommend the best platform for your application—whether that’s off-road capability, long-range touring, mine spec requirements, or specialised service vehicles—so you get the right setup for the job from the start.

How long is the typical lead time for a new build or custom project?

Lead times can vary depending on the level of customisation and our current production schedule, but most custom vehicle builds take around 12 weeks to a few months. This includes things like custom truck bodies, bus conversions, and specialist commercial vehicles.

More complex builds—such as medical units, mine spec vehicles, or custom off-road coaches—may need extra time for engineering, design, and compliance approvals.

We’ll always give you a clear estimated timeline during the quoting stage and keep you updated throughout the build process so you know exactly where things are at.
